Violin Monster
Violin Monster at SXSW / photo by David Greenwald

Per usual, SXSW was the best week of the year. I saw all the bands I wanted to, co-presented Rawkblog and TwentyFourBit’s second annual day party at the Jackalope, and spoke on a panel on “The Unspoken Code of the Blogosphere.” Oh, and had enough BBQ to kill Anthony Bourdain, or at least ruin my weight-loss regimen.

I also wrote a SXSW survival guide ebook (my first) and appeared on Billboard’s TMI: The Music Insider web show to talk about it, in case you need to see more of my face. After getting back from Austin, I did sit-down interviews with members of KISS and Motley Crue, which was exactly as surreal as you’d imagine. The month’s greatest hits:

* L.A. Unheard: Julia Holter’s experimental ecstasy (Los Angeles Times)
* Album Review: Bowerbirds – The Clearing (A.V. Club)
* Lionel Richie Lights Up SXSW at Billboard Showcase (Billboard)
* New Song: Frank Ocean, “Whip Appeal” (MTV Buzzworthy)
* KISS & Motley Crue Announce Summer Tour: ‘No Fake Bulls—’ (Billboard)
* The Morning Benders Change Name To Pop Etc, Release Mixtape (Billboard)
* SXSW 2012: 25 Festival Favorites (Rawkblog)
* SXSW 2012: Rawkblog and TwentyFourBit’s Waynestock II (Rawkblog)
